Abstract
Focusing on the experiences of sub-Saharan migrants in the border spaces between Africa and the European Union, this project examines the geopolitical framework of migration with a humanitarian lens. Prefaced by literature surrounding migration between Africa and the EU, this project focuses on the bilateral and regional strategies that have resulted in the securitization and externalization of border controls. Using the cases of Morocco and Libya, this project consists of written and recorded interviews with a migration researcher, civil society activist, and Cameroonian migrant who all provide insight and perspective into the ways in which the human rights of migrants have been impacted and shaped by these concepts. A multimedia compilation, this project ultimately seeks to provide a pedagogical tool through which to explore the topic of migration at the EU-Africa border highlighting the relationship between migration policy and migrant experiences.
